Monday, August 1, 2011:

10:30am – The Chicago Hilal Committee based their decision off of the sighting reports from Trinidad. Trinidad is part of North America, which is within the matla (moon sighting area) as defined by the committee. Click here to see the criteria used by the committee.

The Sunnah Itikaf, which takes place during the last 10 days of Ramadan, will begin at Maghrib on Saturday, August 20, 2011.

The Chicago Hilal Committee will meet on Monday August 29, 2011 (Ramadan 29, 1432) to determine the start of Shawwal (Eid-ul-Fitr). Eid-ul-Fitr will be on either Tuesday, August 30, 2011 or Wednesday, August 31, 2011.

7:15pm – The Chicago Hilal committee will meet on Sunday, July 31, 2011 (Shaban 29, 1432) to determine the start of Ramadan. The 1st of Ramadan will be on either Monday, August 1st or Tuesday, August 2nd. The 1st update is expected to be around 7:30 PM CDT.
