Ramadan 1, 1433 will be Saturday, July 21, 2012. There were no authentic reports from anywhere in North America on Thursday, July 19, 2012 (Shaban 29, 1433). Shaban will complete its course of 30 days and Ramadan 1433 will begin at Maghrib on Friday, July 20th. The 1st of Ramadan will be Saturday, July 21, 2012.

The Chicago Hilal Committee will meet on Saturday, August 18th (Ramadan 29, 1433) to determine the start of Shawwal (Eid-ul-Fitr). If the moon is sighted on Saturday, August 18th, Eid will be on Sunday, August 19th. If the moon is not sighted, Eid will be on Monday, August 20th.

Itikaf will begin on Thursday, August 9th at Maghrib.

The first updates on chicagohilal.org are expected to occur around 8:45 PM CDT. Updates will be made periodically after that as representatives through out North American are contacted. If the moon is not seen in the East Coast or the Midwest, the committee may wait to hear from the West Coast (whose sunset is around 10:30 PM CDT) before making a final decision.
