We have received and verified sightings from a large number of individuals in Florida including Miami and Orlando. Additionally, we have received and verified reports from Trinidad in the Caribbean.

Therefore, the Hilal Committee has unanimously arrived at the decision that Ramadan 1st, 1436 will be:

Although initial reports from Florida reported overcast skies, we are investigating additional reports coming in from the surrounding areas

Our contacts in Florida have reported the skies are overcast and the moon has NOT been sighted there. We are continuing to reach out to other contacts throughout the country.

The Hilal Committee meeting is in session. We are currently reviewing reports from the Caribbean and will continue to check with our other contacts as the sun sets around the country

The Chicago Hilal Committee will convene after Asr (6:30PM) to determine the start of Ramadan. Updates will be posted periodically until a final determination is made.

The Chicago Hilal Committee will meet on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 (Shaban 29, 1436) to determine the start of Ramadan. If the moon is seen on Wednesday, June 17th, Ramadan will begin on Thursday, June 18th. If the moon is not seen on Wednesday, June 17th, Ramadan will begin on Friday, June 19th.

According to visibility forecasts, the moon should be visible in the lower parts of North America on Wednesday, June 17th. Hence, Ramadan will most likely begin on Thursday, June 18th. The Chicago Hilal Committee will meet after Asr (6:30 PM CDT) on Wednesday, June 17th. Updates will continue throughout the night until a final decision is made.

Please note that sunset in parts of California will be close to 10:30 PM CDT, so it is possible that a final decision will not be made till 11:30 PM CDT. Please bear with us as we contact our representatives throughout North America.
