The Chicago Hilal Committee did not receive any authentic moon sighting report from anywhere in North America on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 (Shawwal 29, 1429). As such, Shawwal will complete its course of 30 days and Dhul-Qadah will begin at Maghrib on Thursday, October 30, 2008. The first day of Dhul-Qadah will be on Friday, October 31, 2008.

The Chicago Hilal Committee will meet on Friday, November 28, 2008 (Dhul-Qadah 29, 1429) to determine the start of Dhul-Hijjah and consequently the date of Eid-ul-Adha. If the moon is sighted on Friday, November 28, Dhul-Hijjah will begin on Saturday, November 29th. Consequently, Eid-ul-Adha will be on Monday, December 8, 2008. If the moon is not sighted, Eid-ul-Adha will be on Tuesday, December 9, 2008.
