The moon was not sighted on Sunday, October 18, 2009 anywhere in North America. Consequently, Shawwal will complete its course of 30 days and Dhul-Qadah begins at Maghrib on Monday, October 19, 2009. The 1st of Dhul-Qadah is Tuesday, October 20, 2009.
The Chicago Hilal Committee will meet on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 (Dhul-Qadah 29, 1430) at the Islamic Center of Chicago to determine the start of Dhul-Hijjah and consequently the day of Eid-ul-Adha. Eid-ul-Adha will be on either Friday, November 27, 2009 or Saturday, November 28, 2009.
