Eid-ul-Fitr will be Sunday, August 19, 2012

8:05 PM: Eid Mubarak! The Chicago Hilal Committee received authentic moon sighting reports from the Carribeans tonight, Saturday, August 18, 2012. Shawwal 1, 1433 (Eid-ul-Fitr) will be Sunday, August 19th. Ramadan will end with 29 days and Shawwal will begin tomorrow, Sunday, August 19th.

7:35 PM: The Chicago Hilal Committee will break for Maghrib at 7:45 PM. We will reconvene at 8:15 PM. We are continuing to contact our representatives and will resume updates at that time (8:15 PM).

7:15 PM: The Chicago Hilal Committee meeting is in session. We are contacting our representatives in the East Coast and the Carribbean Islands.

3:00 PM: The Chicago Hilal Committee will meet tonight, Saturday, August 18, 2012 (Ramadan 29, 1433) to determine the start of Shawwal 1433 (Eid-ul-Fitr).

If the moon is sighted on Saturday night within North America, the 1st of Shawwal (Eid-ul-Fitr) will be Sunday, August 19, 2012. If the moon is not sighted on Saturday night, Ramadan will complete its course of 30 days and Shawwal will begin on Monday, August 20, 2012.

The first updates on chicagohilal.org are expected to occur around 8:30 PM CDT. Updates will be made periodically after that as representatives through out North American are contacted. If the moon is not seen in the East Coast or the Midwest, the committee will wait to hear from the West Coast (whose sunset is around 10:00 PM CDT) before making a final decision.
